Every commercial for diabetics seems to include several different cookbooks.
Since Type 2 Diabetics are the target market, why, oh why, do they offer slightly healthier versions of the same crap diet that caused the problem in the first place?
The pictures on TV are for desserts and meals like macaroni and cheese. There is no way in hell to make these foods safe for diabetics. Nope, can't be done.
The desserts are sweetened with chemicals like Nutrasweet or Splenda, which are poison. A safe dessert for a diabetic is a piece of fruit.
If one just absolutely has to have something like cake or pie, have some, but count the carbs. And obviously, it should be on the rarest of occasions. We, as diabetics, don't need cake with our coffee every night. It's a small price to pay to maintain our health.
And as far as mac and cheese--have you ever read the ingredients and nutritional content of either?

You must see different commercials than I do. I hardly ever see cookbooks advertised. Mostly I see ads for glucometers and diabetic supply companies. All products and services are designed to help you MANAGE diabetes--hardly anything designed to find a cure! This is what infuriates me! So much money to be made in the management of diabetes, why bother to find a cure?
@ Patricia: Watch the commercials for the meters and the diabetes supply ones. They offer free cookbooks all the time for getting their service, or trying the meter they sell.
I haven't seen the commercials that you are talking about, only the testing ones, but since I am not diabetic I might not be catching them. No one should eat most of the stuff that we all love. Moderation should be the key for everyone. I don't follow this rule but I know I should.
Is whole grain pasta with fat free cheese and skim milk sauce even really considered mac and cheese?
